A pilot project to teach people how to use the internet was held in New Milton in partnership with NFDC,
NatWest Bank and Lloyds Bank. A number of volunteer Digital Champions, people with the knowledge
and expertise to teach others how to use the internet, were recruited from around the New Forest.
Three series of six two hour sessions each were held by NMTP in the New Milton Memorial Centre to follow on
from initial taster sessions in New Milton Library. Digital Champions worked one to one with learners for an
hour at a time to give them the skills and confidence to use the internet. NMTP also organised a session
with an expert from Nat West Bank on how to stay safe on line.
The sessions have ceased for the moment due to lack of funding but there is a clear need in the community
which has a high proportion of elderly people who want to get on line in a supported environment.
